Swinging a golf club is a mechanical activity with so many variables it boggles the mind. As much as you might try to focus on certain aspects of your golf swing, it's actually beneficial to simple forget everything you know, but with a caveat...
We'll get back to golf in a second, but first let's talk about walking. Walking is complicated. Very complicated. In fact it's so complicated that making a robot that can replicate a human walk requires some extremely complicated math... and genius level engineering skills.
But we can all walk without even thinking about it. And that's the key. We don't think about it!
In fact, if you try to walk by thinking about it, it suddenly becomes incredibly complicated. Try it now. Try to walk across the room by consciously controlling every movement, every muscle, every subtle shift of weight, the lift of your foot, the movement of it through the air and the conscious placing it back down on the floor.
The mechanics of taking a simple step are far too complicated for our conscious mind. To be able to even take one step completely consciously you'd need to have the same level of understanding of the mechanics of a step as a genius engineer would need to build a robot.
So how does this apply to golf?
All golfers are guilty of trying to consciously swing the club. We think about our stance, our hips, the rotation of the wrist, where to look, the pull back, the follow through all of it!
Instead of consciously trying to control your swing just let it flow. Again with a caveat....
Educating yourself as to what makes a golf swing better is a good thing. Study pro golfers, read about the perfect swing, seek out information that will help you to correct problems that you have with your swing.
But... and this is the secret.... DON'T try to consciously control your swing. Trust that everything you read, learn watch and study about the perfect swing is all absorbed by your subconscious mind. And trust that your subconscious mind can put all of that information into your golf swing. Because it can.... but, and this is the kicker, YOU CAN'T!!!
When you focus on one aspect of your golf swing and try to control it you create tension in your body. This is the enemy of the perfect swing. And more than anything else it'll rob your swing of all of it's power.
Just trust and let it flow... again with a caveat...
The most effective approach ritual for the perfect golf swing
What is your approach ritual right now? Do you even have one? Well, here's an approach ritual that is gonna transform your game. You need to tell you subconscious mind to provide you with a perfect swing, based on everything you've ever read, watch or studied. Your subconscious mind remembers it all, and if you tell your subconscious to control your swing for you, based on this immense wealth of information (which includes every swing you've ever watched by every pro!) then it can deliver something that will astound you, and your golfing buddies.
So how do you do that?
How do you ask your subconscious mind to improve your golf swing for you automatically?
You need to speak it's language! And that's NOT English... or any other dialect!! The language of the subconscious is pictures. But more specifically, pictures of the desired outcome, NOT of the process. So don't visualise your swing at all. Visualise where you want the ball to go.
Visualise exactly where you want the golf ball to land.
This is like a blueprint that your subconscious mind users as its goal. It then digs into the immense wealth of information that you've accumulated from every swing you've ever seen and it controls your body for you to deliver that swing.
You just need to get out of the way and let it happen.
The magic formula for a perfect golf swing
- Step 1. Study!!! A LOT! Read books on the perfect swing, watch pro golfers and learn as much as you can about the anatomy and mechanics of swinging a golf club.
- Step 2. Trust that everything that you have learned is absorbed by your subconscious mind. Because it is.
- Step 3. Forget EVERYTHING (well.... by forget, I actually mean don't try to control your swing consciously. Just trust!!!!)
